Gwyn Choles obtained her Undergraduate and Honours Degrees in Psychology through the University of South Africa (UNISA) and then completed her Masters in Educational Psychology degree at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) in 1998. Practical clinical experience was gained at the Tara (H Moross) Hospital in the child, adolescent and eating disorders units. She gains her understanding of inner mental processes, cognition, emotions and behaviour through a psycho-dynamic theoretical orientation.
She has been in Private Practice on the East Rand since 1998 seeing a wide variety of children, adolescents and adults in individual, couple and family therapies. She provides supervision for colleagues and participates in workshops on a range of topics. She works with various schools in the East Rand area, receiving referrals for assessments and therapy.
She was a member of the Johannesburg Association of Child Psychotherapists (JACP) for an extended period of time, offering group supervision.
She is currently on the committee of the Institute of Psycho-dynamic Child Psychotherapists (IPCP) and is a member of the South African Psychoanalytic Confederation (SAPC).
Gwyn is involved in the community through supervision of social auxiliary workers at Khanya Family Centre in Katlehong which caters for the counselling needs of the Katorus area.
